Syllabuses

Ensuring the staff are competent is an important part of train operations, and so the following is a set of syllabuses, which for various operating roles define what staff must know, and in some cases what practical skills they must possess,

There is an overall description of the various routes by which members of train crews can progress through the various operating grades, and this exists in two forms:  as a leaflet and as a poster.  Click here to access the leaflet, and click here to access the poster

The first operating grade for locomotive crew is shunter, and the syllabus this covers both what must be known and what can be done.

For passenger guards there is a syllabus to define what they need to know of the rules and regulations that relate to operating trains. 

For diesel locomotive second men there is a syllabus to define what they need to know of the rules and regulations that relate to operating trains.

For steam locomotive firemen there is a syllabus to define what they need to know of the rules and regulations that relate to operating trains

For drivers there is a syllabus to define what they need to know of the rules and regulations that relate to operating trains
